Lajcak: Slovakia Sticks to Its Guns on Not Recognising State of Kosovo

Bratislava/Pristina, April 9 (TASR) - Slovakia's refusal to recognise Kosovo's independence is clear-cut and isn't subject to change, but "this position doesn't represent any hostility towards the people of Kosovo," Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak said at a meeting with top representatives of Kosovo's Albanians in Pristina late on Thursday.

During his talks, Lajcak stressed that Slovakia has an interest in the political and economic stability of the Balkans and strives to contribute to stability from its position as a NATO and EU member.

"Within this framework we intend to seek constructive ways of pragmatic co-operation so that the issue of Kosovo's status has no negative repercussions on people's day-to-day lives," Lajcak's spokesman Peter Stano told TASR.

Lajcak successively met with Fatmir Sejdiu, Hashim Thaci and Skender Hyseni "who, in the administration of Kosovo's unilaterally declared authorities, claim the posts of President, Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister," said Stano.

In addition, the Slovak official held talks with head of the UN Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) Lamberto Zannier.
