Gasparovic Due to Visit Serbia on Wednesday

Bratislava, December 1 (TASR) - Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic will leave for an official two-day visit to Serbia on Wednesday, accompanied by Economy Minister Lubomir Jahnatek and a group of Slovak businessmen.

Gasparovic and his wife Silvia will start their visit by meeting Serbian President Boris Tadic and Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic.

Gasparovic will take part in opening a business forum at the headquarters of Serbia's Trade Chamber and will visit the country's Parliament.

The Slovak President will also meet ethnic Slovaks living in the region of Vojvodina.

The Serbian Parliament on Monday approved more extensive autonomy for Vojvodina, a move that has been criticised by Serb nationalists, who claim that this will lead to similar developments as in the case of Kosovo. The law is part of the reforming and decentralising process required by the EU as a part of Serbia's accession process.

There are 26 nationalities and ethnic groups living in Vojvodina, including 63,545 Slovaks, who represent the largest compact Slovak community in the world.

This is Gasparovic's second visit to Serbia this year.
