Slota: Hungarian Secret Agents in Slovakia Should Be Checked Out

Bratislava, April 8 (TASR) - Slovakia should look into how many members of the Hungarian military secret services are present in Slovakia and find out what they are doing here, co-ruling Slovak National Party (SNS) chief Jan Slota said at a press conference on Thursday.

At the same time, Slovakia shouldn't admit extremists onto its territory at all, stressed Slota. "If we had the power, inspections would be in place at all border crossings (with Hungary)," he stated.

"We want to demand a tougher regime on the southern border," said SNS first vice-chair Anna Belousovova, who said that a state can react to extremist activities by tightening up inspections on borders even within the Schengen zone. She referred to the recent visit by sympathisers of the extremist Hungarian Jobbik party to a statue of Hungarian King Stephen I in Komarno (Nitra region). The group subsequently held a rally on the Hungarian side of the border in which it called for a revision of Hungary's borders.

"It's inappropriate and disgusting to compare (extremists in Hungary and Slovakia)," said Slota. "Do we go marching in Budapest and worship anybody there?" he asked.

"Somebody is artificially nourishing the notion that extremism also exists in Slovakia. There may be 30, perhaps 50 poor devils that don't have everything right in their heads. In Hungary, they shoot gypsies dead, pour petrol on families and set them alight. There's a difference when in one place a mother and her two children burn and somewhere else some people only shout, and only in limited numbers," said Slota.
