SDKU-DS: Slovakia in Need of Substantial Change in Foreign Policy

Bratislava, April 8 (TASR) - Slovakia is in need of substantial change in its foreign policy following four years of deterioration in this area, Opposition SDKU-DS MP Milan Jezovica told a press conference on Thursday.
"For four years, we've been listening to statements that we're a small country that has no influence on what's going on in the world," said Jezovica.
"Neither do we share the view that not our values but only our interests matter in politics. If values aren't observed, interests limp on one leg," said Jezovica.
Slovakia needs to pursue active European politics, which, however, has been strikingly non-existent here in the past four years, he said.
"Slovakia's foreign policy lacks balance and symmetry, that's why we have no choice but to criticise it. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's visit was merely a testament to this, and it only made the imbalance in Slovak-Russian relations deeper," added Jezovica.
According to spokesman for the Foreign Affairs Ministry Peter Stano, "we reject this sort of evaluation of foreign policy ... it needs to be viewed in light of the upcoming election." He added that "from the viewpoint of the Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry, Slovakia's foreign policy is well-balanced and has attained positive results."
