Athens/Bratislava, December 1 (TASR) - The Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) should deal with the matter of energy security at the ministerial level, Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak said at an OSCE ministerial meeting in Athens on Tuesday.
"It's obvious that security and reliability of energy supplies has a direct impact on overall security in Europe," said Lajcak in his address to ministers and representatives of more than 60 OSCE member countries.
According to the Slovak official, OSCE-member states should look into how existing OSCE mechanisms could be employed for the sake of restoring trust in the energy sphere via the expectation that energy supplies will not be disrupted.
Lajcak also highlighted Slovakia's activities in prompting discussion on this issue, which is finding increasing backing among OSCE-member states.
The session in Athens is mainly devoted to discussions concerning the future security architecture of Europe (labelled as the 'Corfu Process'). Lajcak underscored that it is not a face-saving exercise for OSCE, and the organisation must ensure that the dialogue on Europe's security should be comprehensive, transparent and open.
"OSCE plays a crucial role in this dialogue, and the issue of energy security is one of the challenges," said Lajcak.
