Survey: Nine Out of Ten Foreign Investors Would Come to Slovakia Again

Bratislava, April 8 (TASR) - Nine out of ten foreign investors doing business in Slovakia would come to the country again, according to a survey conducted by the Slovak-German Trade and Industry Chamber among 114 German, Austrian and French investors that was published on Thursday.

Slovakia came out of the survey as the most attractive country in Central and Eastern Europe.

Only 6 percent of the firms questioned regard the current economic situation as good, but a promising 35 percent expect an improvement as early as this year. When it comes to the companies' own fortunes, 40 percent said that they expect an improvement during the course of this year. Four out of five firms aren't planning any lay-offs, while one-quarter are planning to increase the number of their employees.

As for investment expenditures in 2010, the investors predominantly said that they will maintain these at the 2009 level or even increase them.

"Investors evaluate Slovakia positively mainly due to its membership of the EU. In addition, they are satisfied with the labour force, which is willing to work at relatively moderate costs," said president of the Chamber Markus Halt at Thursday's press conference.

Conversely, the investors complained about a lack of law enforcement, corruption and the slow development of infrastructure.
