Bratislava, April 6 (TASR) - The Construction and Regional Development Ministry has drawn up a plan for accessing EU Funds in 2010 that should be carried out jointly by the European Commission (EC) and Slovakia.
The plan is in the form of a road map made up of eight points for implementing Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund in the 2007-13 programme period. It will be examined by the Government this week.
According to the EC, the drawing of EU Funds in many EU countries in 2009 was sluggish due the economic crisis. Representatives of the EC and Slovakia have held many rounds of talks in Bratislava and Brussels in order to prevent further unfavourable developments, to avoid violations of regulations and to make Slovakia better prepared to draw EU Funds.
Head of the EC's Directorate-General for Regional Policy (DG REGIO) Dirk Ahner came to Slovakia for a working visit two months ago to discuss this matter. He met representatives of ministries that are responsible for Operational Programmes co-financed by Structural and Cohesion Funds. The talks focused on major infrastructure projects in the sectors of transport and the environment.
"Regarding the slow start to the drawing of resources in the 2007-13 period, the year 2010 will be critical for EU countries, so it will be necessary to record considerable progress especially in 2010", said Ahner during his visit. The task of preparing the aforementioned road map was among the outcomes of the visit.
