Bratislava, April 5 (TASR) - European Union member countries will carry out a census of inhabitants as well as houses and flats in the same year for the first time. In Slovakia, the census will take place in May 2011, TASR was told by Zuzana Stukovska from the Census Department of Slovak Statistics Office on Monday.
The results of the censuses will therefore be comparable. "For the first time in history, based on a regulation of the European Parliament and Council of the EU, the census of inhabitants, houses and flats will be carried out in the same year in all EU-member countries," said Stukovska. At the same time she explained that it is necessary for the data resulting from census to be internationally comparable and that a double registration of a person; or the exclusion of others does not occur. This is why the Slovak census questionnaire will have to undergo some changes, added Stukovska.
During the upcoming census in 2011, people will be able to fill the questionnaire in electronic form for the first time. The Slovak Statistics Office plans to establish a special website for this purpose.
