Nitra, April 5 (TASR) - Employees of companies that co-operate with Sony Slovakia's Nitra-based plant fear losing their jobs following an announcement that Hon Hai Precision Industry (commercially acting under the name Foxconn) is buying a 90-percent stake in Sony Slovakia, spokesman for Sony Slovakia Richard Menczer has told TASR.
"As Sony has no influence over Hon Hai's organisation of production, we can't comment on the matter of sub-supplies of these companies for the production of TV sets in the future," said Menczer.
A total of five sub-contracting companies for Sony (Dia Moulding Slovakia, Daidong Slovakia, Ryoka, Farguell and Meiki) operate in the Nitra-Sever industrial park.
According to the information provided, this year's production plan of Sony in Nitra, reckoning on an output of 5 million LCD TV screens, remains unchanged. In addition, the new majority owner from Taiwan is planning to increase the plant's production to 7 million Sony pieces next year.
The move is expected to create new jobs, with the Slovak economy ministry expecting an improvement by around 20 percent.
