Bratislava, April 4 (TASR) - The most popular political party Smer-SD will present its election manifesto on Tuesday (April 6) at a conference in Bratislava, with Slovak Premier and Smer-SD chairman Robert Fico and other party representatives scheduled to deliver speeches.
Fico said that Smer has prepared two rather radical measures to deal with the Slovak judiciary. "These measures are designed to significantly improve the judiciary, which has become the subject of such heated debate lately," he said.
Other political parties have manifestos to unveil as well. The ethnic-Hungarian SMK intends to do so after Easter, said its vice-chair Jozsef Berenyi. The programme is not fully ready yet, as SMK needs to make final alterations and seek the approval of the party leadership.
The Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) plans to formulate the final version of its manifesto on April 10 (Saturday) in Zvolen (Banska Bystrica region), with the programme due to be published on the same day.
The opposition SDKU-DS already had a programme conference on March 27. It declared that its priorities are to support the quality of life of the middle class, strengthen the rule of law and improve law enforcement.
No date for a programme conference has been decided by the Slovak National Party (SNS) as yet. "Our manifesto will probably be published at the very last minute, but with so many more things included in thanks to this," SNS spokesman Dusan Strauss told TASR.
LS-HZDS has partly presented its manifesto at regular press conferences, particularly its ideas on how to combat corruption and improve education. The party hasn't planned a programme conference yet, however.
