Bratislava and Vienna to Sign Agreement on Co-operation

Bratislava, April 4 (TASR) - A proposal for a co-operation agreement between the city of Bratislava and the Austrian capital Vienna has been passed by Bratislava City Council, which authorised mayor Andrej Durkovsky to sign the document at an international Danube Strategy conference on April 19.
The Twin-City bilateral agreement will be focused mainly on the fields of transport infrastructure, land-planning, commerce and trade, and protection against floods and natural catastrophes. Bratislava and Vienna will also join forces in spheres such as science and research, culture, education, marketing and tourism, and projects financed from European funds.
The Twin-City agreement will confirm current co-operation, and an interest in developing it further in future. Both cities want to pick up the threads of common history and culture involuntarily disrupted by the Iron Curtain. Following the collapse of the Communist regime in Czechoslovakia in 1989, relations between the two cities resumed, and were intensified especially after Slovakia joined the EU and the Schengen zone.
