Jahnatek: Majority of Slovakia's Crude Oil From Kazakhstan

Bratislava, April 3 (TASR) - The majority of crude oil, which comes to Slovakia through the Russian pipeline Druzhba, originates in Kazakhstan, Slovak Economy Minister Lubomir Jahnatek told TASR on Saturday.

Last year, 3.1 million tonnes of crude oil streamed to Slovakia, is planned that the country receives 5 million tonnes this year.

Jahnatek explained that it is the consumer who determines from where the crude oil will be transported to the country. Russians, as the owners of the pipeline, only suggest specific sources. "Slovnaft (refinery) closed an agreement with Kazakhstan and it seems profitable," said Jahnatek.

In 2007, during the visit of Kazakh President Nursultan Abishuly Nazarbayev to Slovakia, discussions were held about building a central transship point for Kazakh crude oil. "The transship point is not being built yet, due to a big problem with the environment," said Jahnatek. He however pointed out that Slovakia is interested in transport of the oil for other countries, mentioning the plan to build a pipeline between Bratislava and Austrian refinery in Schwechat.
