Bratislava, April 2 (TASR) - Slovakia is a country of cultural diversity, which makes it necessary to preserve and develop the culture of each nation and ethnic group, Dusan Hegli of Most-Hid party's working group has told TASR.
"We aim to set up a Culture Fund in Slovakia, which would be a sort of third pillar for culture funding," said Hegli. If Most-Hid succeeds in the upcoming election, it will push for the adoption of a law on funding the culture of ethnic minorities, he added. In addition, the party will propose that an office dealing with supporting the culture of ethnic minorities be set up.
"The Office would be tasked with drawing up a concept for funding minority cultures. It would be headed by a chairman appointed by Parliament. Decisions on earmarking funds would be adopted by expert commissions, in which minorities would be represented on an equal basis," said Hegli, adding that the measure would be aimed at depoliticising culture.
Culture Ministry spokesman Jozef Bednar said that the ministry wouldn't comment on the election programmes of political parties.
