Bratislava, March 31 (TASR) - Co-ruling LS-HZDS rejects the idea of progressive taxation, a plan that Prime Minister Robert Fico dropped a hint upon a couple of days ago. Instead, if they make it to the next government the party wants to pursue policies aimed at lowering the delivery burden in Slovakia, according to HZDS vice-chairman Jozef Habanik.
"The heavy burden in taxes and stub fees is not a good way to tackle economic problems," said Habanik at a news conference on Wednesday, adding that they see a way out by redefining the structure of economic growth and employment.
As to more specific solutions vis-a-vis simplifying the system, Habanik said his party would promote the idea of establishing one financial authority responsible for the unified collection of taxes and deliveries in Bratislava. By saving on these administrative costs there would be room for lowering the delivery burden, which should in turn stimulate employment, suggested Habanik.
The project of unified collection of taxes and deliveries is currently being dealt with by the Finance Ministry.
