Bratislava, March 31 (TASR) - Slovakia ranks among best-disciplined countries in terms of paying fees for its memberships in international organisations. This is according to a report examined by the Government on Wednesday.
To date, Slovakia has joined more than 90 international organisations, programmes, funds, conventions and conferences, and has paid €25.7 million on membership fees in such groupings in 2008 and €19.8 million in 2009.
Foreign Affairs Ministry, which submitted the report, says that two one-off payments stand apart from other, regular, transfers within the nearly €20-million amount. The two said items (worth €157,024 in total) were those paid towards the projects covering the costs of reconstruction of the OECD seat in Paris, and construction of the new NATO headquarters in Brussels.
Among the regular membership fees, the highest amounts from Slovakia flow into the budgets of NATO, European Centre for Nuclear Research (CERN), the United Nations, the Council of Europe, OECD, the International Visegrad Fund, and the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT).
