Bratislava, November 30 (TASR) - Next year's financial support for the Slovak ethnic minority in Hungary will not be reduced year-on-year even though such cuts have been proposed, Parliamentary Foreign Committee chairman Juraj Horvath (Smer-SD) said on Monday.
Last week Horvath wrote a letter to his Hungarian counterpart Zsolt Nemeth stressing the importance of the unanimously adopted Esztergom agreement of February 25, under which financial support for ethnic minorities in either country may not be reduced under any circumstances – an economic crisis included.
"Given that this obligation was signed by all members of Hungarian foreign committee regardless of their party affiliation, the letter copy was sent also to these Hungarian lawmakers who will vote on the state budget in Budapest," said Anna Lenicka of Slovak Parliament's Communications Department.
According to her, Horvath declared himself ready for further negotiations between the two committees, which under the Esztergom arrangement will continue in Bratislava.
