Bratislava, March 29 (TASR) - No Slovaks have yet been reported among the victims of the explosions in the Moscow metro early on Monday, TASR was told by Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Peter Stano on the same day.
"Our diplomats in Moscow are monitoring the situation very closely, but as everything falls under the remit of the Russian security and rescue forces, we can only work on information from local offices," said Stano.
Stano said that around 40 Slovaks study in Moscow, and all of them are said to be safe. "So are around 80 of the our embassy employees and employees of the Slovak Institute in Moscow. None of them were at the metro stations hit by explosions at the given time," he stated, adding that there are dozens of other Slovaks living or working in Moscow, but the ministry doesn't have exact numbers as they don't report their stays. "However, we haven't yet received any information from companies that have employees in Moscow that they could be among the victims of the explosions or that they are missing," noted Stano.
At least 37 people were killed and another 33 injured in two explosions in the Moscow metro during the morning rush hour on Monday. Two suicide bombers are thought to be responsible for the attacks, which have been described as the worst on the Russian capital for six years.
No terrorist group has so far claimed responsibility for the attacks, but suspicion has fallen on groups from Russia's northern Caucasus, where the Kremlin has been engaged in an increasing struggle with Islamic militants.
