Trnava, December 1 (TASR) - Production at PSA Peugeot-Citroen's plant in Trnava will be put on hold as of December 23, with the factory resuming work on January 4, 2010, said company spokesman Peter Svec on Tuesday.
During this time, the company will carry out regular maintenance of technical equipment.
According to Svec, even if PSA Peugeot-Citroen registered a 20-percent increase in commissions year-on-year, winter maintenance would be necessary to allow machinery to operate further.
"In 2009, the Trnava works will produce over 200,000 vehicles of both of our models - the Peugeot 207 and the Citroen C3 Picasso. This will be a 10-percent increase on 2008. As far as production volume is concerned, we'll become number one among end car producers in Slovakia," said Svec.
This result will be achieved mainly thanks to unexpectedly successful sales of the Citroen C3 Picasso model, which has been produced exclusively in Trnava since the beginning of 2009. According to Svec, production was partly stimulated by the so-called scrapyard contribution scheme that was introduced this year in many European countries, including Slovakia.
