Meciar: Slovakia Has No Hope of Improving Employment in Next Years

Bratislava, March 26 (TASR) - There's currently little hope for improving the jobs situation in Slovakia, LS-HZDS Chairman Vladimir Meciar said on Friday.
According to Meciar, Slovakia will struggle with the employment issue throughout the whole year. "We need to be true to people. The situation won't improve much in the next two years, but probably in the two years after that," said Meciar, adding that more effort to look for ways of improving the jobs climate is called for, as the economies in Slovakia and the world are undergoing changes.
He also thinks that the social sphere, including the healthcare and school system in particular, will run into problems in trying to find financial sources.
Meciar said that the political parties, with their eyes set on getting into Parliament, don't offer many resolutions to address the situation. "They're all saying rather optimistically that social benefits could be raised (in the near future), although the prospects are less than realistic," he claimed.
Slovakia, according to Meciar, will need to deal not only with the economic crisis but also with its debts stemming from the "era of bank privatisations", when some €3.6 billion went into cleansing the bad debts of the three largest state-owned banks.
Hence, June's parliamentary election will represent an important crossroads for the country, as it will decide Slovakia's future course in how to overcome the crisis, said Meciar.
