Fico: Goals Set in Europe 2020 Okay, But We Don't Like Figures

Brussels, March 26 (TASR) - Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who represented Slovak stances towards European Union issues at the just-closed EU summit, considers it to be correct that only three out of five points of the new Strategy for Growth and Employment (Europe 2020) will contain "exact figures" after Friday's conclusion of the summit.

"I'm talking about financing research and development, employment indicators, as well as those related to climate change issues," explained Fico, adding that there was no joint conclusion on how to tackle the issues of poverty and education, so these will be dealt with by the June summit.

At a briefing on Friday in Brussels, Fico said it wasn't the right move to define the Europe 2020 strategy without considering the possibilities of individual EU member states. He assumes the process should have been driven the other way round.

Fico explained that he sees no problem in setting the goals, but their quantification is far from being sober, and the respective figures - as set in the strategy - are too unrealistic to be met.
