SDKU-DS Says Its Election Programme Aimed at Improving Life Quality

Bratislava, March 26 (TASR) - Opposition SDKU-DS is set to approve its programme for the June 12 parliamentary election at its programme conference on Saturday, election leader and deputy chairwoman Iveta Radicova told reporters when unveiling the document Friday in Bratislava.

"It is grounded in three pillars concerning the economy and employment growth; support for the quality of middle-class life; and justice, the rule of law and enforceability of law," she said.

Radicova said that SDKU adopted a new strategy for its programme as well as communication with people. The programme was formed based on consultation with experts as well as more than 70 meetings with citizens, which gave us over 1,000 concrete ideas and solutions. The programme, thus, addresses fundamental problems besetting society.

Answering suggestions that SDKU-DS has become more 'social' than in the past, Radicova said that the social issues and support for the life of citizens in need as well as regulation of monopolies has been part of SDKU-DS's programme at all times. "It is obscure and unclear communication with citizens, which had been one of the mistakes of the former SDKU-DS led government.

According to Radicova, half of SDKU-DS's programme is focused on the family, family life, social services, the promotion of housing and the middle class. All centre-right parties accepted SDKU's invitation to attend Saturday's event.

SDKU-DS parliamentary caucus chairman Stanislav Janis drew a distinction between his party and the strongest government party Smer-SD, saying that SDKU-DS features in its programme ways to obtain revenue so that it can afford to be social rather than Smer-SD which while short of cash keeps spending, leaving somebody else to foot the bill in future.
