Civil Association: Gov't Should Sell Cars to Complete Winter Stadium

Stara Lubovna, March 24 (TASR) - Dozens of members of Stara Lubovna Civil Association (Presov region) gathered outside the town's district office on Wednesday to ask the Government, which was holding its regular policy session there this week, for funds to complete the local winter stadium, left unfinished for 25 years now.

"The sale of the fancy cars that drove the government members to the session would be enough for the stadium construction," said Michal Sipos of the Association, adding that he counted nearly 40 of them in the carpark. With each costing some €67,000, the stadium could be completed, albeit with fewer windows than planned.

According to Sipos, only Interior Minister Robert Kalinak took notice of a large billboard stating: "Stara Lubovna Needs a Winter Stadium", which was put up outside the office by the Association in support of its cause. "He told us that national hockey player Marian Hossa is a native of Stara Lubovna, so that speaks for itself," he said.

Lovers of this winter sport even travel abroad for the game. "Hockey players go to play in Kezmarok, Spisska Nova Ves and even Poland," said Sipos, noting that the town has neither a stadium nor ice-hockey club, forcing local players to play for the teams of surrounding towns.

The Association wrote a letter to Fico pointing to natives of Lubovna such as national team players Marian Hossa and Peter Bondra. It said that it would like to have Fico cherish this fact in his heart.
