Interior Ministry Registered UNAS With Three-Month Delay

Bratislava, March 23 (TASR) - The registration of the UNAS road-hauliers association took the Interior Ministry almost three months, far longer than usual, it was reported on Tuesday.
UNAS applied for registration on December 31, 2009, but it was registered only on March 19. According to the law, the ministry is obliged to carry out the registration process within ten days, weekends and holidays included.
Ministry representatives defended the delay by pointing to UNAS's alleged failure to provide necessary information in December 2009. Because of this, the entire registration process had to be restarted. "The ministry alerted the Union to imperfections in its statutes," Natalia Hattalova from the Interior Ministry's media department told TASR. UNAS had to re-apply for registration on February 19.
UNAS members are unhappy with the electronic road-toll system, which was introduced as of January 1, 2010 and applies to vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tonnes. The hauliers criticise what they view as excessive tolls on first class roads and confusing toll invoices.
