Bratislava, March 23 (TASR) - 'A History of Self-confidence' is the name of a new project launched by the News Agency of the Slovak Republic (TASR), which intends to release 15 short documentary films portraying Slovak personalities. The series begins on Tuesday with the premiere of a film about Jan Mathe, one of Slovakia's most distinctive sculptors.
The film will be featured on the agency's website (www.tasr.sk), and will be made available to TASR's Video Press System clients.
"Apart from covering current issues, TASR is also a memory institution that reflects on the past. Our entry into the film document genre is a continuation of our video-service initiative," said TASR's general director Jaroslav Reznik.
According to TASR's strategy director Vladimir Puchala, the series will focus on the older generation and on personalities from various areas of life who aren't very well known. The aim of the documentaries is to present turning points in Slovakia's history, focusing on the years 1948 (the Communist take-over of Czechoslovakia), 1968 (the invasion of Czechoslovakia by Warsaw Pact forces) and 1989 (the Velvet Revolution) from the perspective of individual fates and work.
TASR will present a new film directed by Jan S. Sabol every Tuesday before noon. "In the first series, we've prepared profiles of 14 men and one woman. When continuing the documentary series, we want to reverse this ratio. They are professionally made documents of television quality, and are also available to TV channels," added Reznik.
