Nitra, March 22 (TASR) - Some Slovak food producers have an opportunity to break into the as yet competition-free markets in republics of the former Soviet Union, Agriculture Minister Vladimir Chovan (HZDS nominee) said at an Information Day for Food Producers in Nitra on Monday.
According to Chovan, the Ministry has made the first successful contacts with Belarus, while Ukraine, Moldavia and Georgia are showing interest as well. "We see a great potential for breaking through on some prospective markets," said Chovan.
He added that oil plants processors, milk producers and canners took part in meeting between Slovak and Belarus representatives. "It was only at the meeting when we realised that Belarus wine production equals zero, they are no vineyards ... the country imports all of its wine. Hence, we expect our wine-growers to adopt a more active approach during the next round of discussions with Belarus's representatives," said Chovan.
