Bratislava, November 29 (TASR) – Slovakia on Saturday night learned the winners of the popular Slavik (Nightingale) 2009 music contest, as voted by the public.
The sculptures awarded in the 12th annual contest went to Zuzana Smatanova in the female singer category, Peter Cmorik in the male singer, and the rock band Desmod from Nitra in the group category. The same musicians also received Nightingales in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
The clear winner in the bands category is Desmod, which won the Nightingale for the fourth time in a row. "For sure, I won't lie, when we got the Nightingale for the first time, it was the biggest surprise (at that time)," TASR was told by Desmod guitarist Richard Syncak.
Peter Cmorik, former SuperStar winner, also received the Slavik for the fourth time in a row. "It's great, it's something that you can merely dream of," he said.
Zuzana Smatanova received the Nightingale for the fifth time in a row. "It's really the voice of the people and I'm happy that people have chosen me," said Smatanova.
