Analysts: KOZ's Non-partisanship a Nonsense After Agreement With Smer-SD

Bratislava, March 20 (TASR) - Non-partisanship of the Confederation of Trade Unions (KOZ) is a mockery of the electorate, political analyst Miroslav Kusy told TASR on Saturday.
Kusy said this in reaction to the statements of KOZ president Miroslav Gazdik, who said that KOZ remains a non-partisan organisation despite signing an agreement with Smer-SD on Friday. "They're (KOZ) only trying to declare the wishful state, while the reality is totally different," said Kusy.
Political analyst Darina Malova does not see any sense in Gazdik's statements concerning KOZ's non-partisanship. "In a democracy, any interest group is free to choose its partners, including political parties," she said.
According to her, co-operation between trade unions and left-wing political subjects is common and functioning in several West-European countries. She thinks KOZ represents a political organisation, for which it is natural to choose a partner for elections.
"The non-partisanship of any organisation ends however when it chooses a political party for its partner and when it gives suggestions to its members on how to vote in elections," added Malova.
Gazdik said on Friday that KOZ will call on its members to vote for Smer-SD in the upcoming parliamentary elections on June 12. He added, that the signing of the agreement with Smer-SD is not at odds with KOZ's non-partisanship.
