European Commission Asks for Further Information on Road-Toll Tender

Brussels, March 19 (TASR-correspondent) - The issue of the correctness of the proceedings in selecting Slovakia's road-toll provider has again caught the attention of the European Commission (EC), which has asked Slovakia to provide further information related to the tender, Chantal Hughes, spokesperson for the Internal Market and Services Commissioner, said on Friday.

"The Commission on Thursday sent Slovakia a request for clarification based on complaints that created a basis for a lack of clarity with regard to the electronic road tolls. We can't release any details at the moment that concern the way in which the contract with the winner of the tender (SkyToll) was carried out. There's a possibility that other bidders could have been discriminated against," said the spokesperson.

Slovakia will have two months to clear up the doubts. The case may even end up before the European Court of Justice.
