SDKU-DS: Slovakia Going Down the Tubes

Bratislava, March 17 (TASR) - Slovakia, its people – and especially the middle class – are going down the tubes, Opposition SDKU-DS Vice-Chairman Ivan Miklos said at a press conference on Wednesday in Bratislava.
According to SDKU-DS, the Government has failed in improving people's living conditions, especially the quality of life of the middle class and families with children. "That's why we want to focus (in the election campaign) on improving the quality of life of this particular group," said Miklos.
He also added that the Government has failed to maintain the high economic growth and increase employment. "The numbers and data in the field of employment represent clear proof of this. In no way is the global crisis the sole cause of the deterioration here," Miklos pointed out. He also voiced his concern about the failure of state institutions and politicians to gain public trust as well as the deteriorating situation in the judiciary.
SDKU-DS election leader Iveta Radicova regards the introduction of the euro and entering the Schengen Zone as the greatest accomplishments of this Government. "Hence, the current Government has successfully completed the integration process that had begun nearly two decades ago. And as much as the Government promised to cancel the reforms made by former coalition [led by SDKU-DS - ed. note], they haven't made good on their promise - and that's something to be grateful for. The reforms enacted by the former government paved way for economic growth and an increase in the number of jobs," said Radicova.
However, according to Radicova, the current Government has brought no resolutions forward to support the middle class and people who are employees. "There are no new stable jobs with stable pay, people still live more and more in uncertainty and fear losing their jobs. Also, regional disparities are still in place," added Radicova.
