SDKU-DS: SAV Strategy Offers No Concrete Resolutions

Bratislava, March 16 (TASR) - The strategy of Slovakia's development to 2030, drawn up by Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV) for the Slovak Government, contains no surprising or new resolutions, Opposition SDKU-DS election leader Iveta Radicova said at a press conference on Tuesday.
"This strategic document is formulated in vague terms, into which too many resolutions can fit," said Radicova.
According to her, SDKU-DS and SAV concur that it's the middle class that represents the fundamental and stable pillar of society. However, the strategy presented offers no concrete ways to support this middle class, claimed Radicova.
SAV Economic Institute chief Milan Sikula thinks that the support of middle class is a prerequisite for the development of Slovakia, as it's this very social class that produces societal wealth and maintains employment.
The analysis, commissioned by Robert Fico's Government in late 2006, was drawn up for a fee of €900,000. SAV head Jaromir Pastorek emphasised that the fee wasn't overpriced, as the analysis was drafted over the course of several years and involved the work of 160 experts.
Pastorek stressed that SAV is an apolitical organisation, and that by implication the work should be deemed as such. He conceded that it was commissioned by the current Government and is being appropriated by the strongest governing party Smer-SD as part of its election programme. He stressed, however, that politicians didn't interfere in its elaboration of the report' nor do they agree with many of the expert opinions presented in the report.
