Slovakia to Revise Its National Action Plan of Roma Population Inclusion

Bratislava, March 16 (TASR) – Slovakia will revise is national action plan within the programme called 'The Decade of Roma Population Inclusion 2005-2015', it was reported on Tuesday.

The planned revision of this international initiative, in which 13 European countries participate, was discussed in Bratislava by each country's representatives, NGOs and civic organisations.

To revise the action plan, the Bureau of the Slovak Government's Proxy for Roma Communities will use an expert opinion worked out by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The national action plan vis-a-vis the Decade will tie in with the 2007-2013 Medium-term Concept of Development of the Roma Minority in Slovakia, the aim of which is to create a model for creating a more favourable environment in marginalised Roma communities, and its application should improve living conditions of the Roma and help them integrate into society.

The Decade programme ambitions were adopted by 12 countries in central and south-eastern Europe, plus Spain. Slovakia, which has the highest Roma population per capita in Europe, is currently presiding over the Decade initiative, with the presidency expiring in the end of June.
