Bratislava, November 28 (TASR) – Opposition SDKU-DS chairman Mikulas Dzurinda said early on Sunday that he considers the victory of Pavol Freso (SDKU-DS, KDH, SMK, OKS and SaS) in the second, run-off round of the Higher Territorial Unit (VUCs) elections in Bratislava region to be a breakthrough,
Dzurinda was reacting to the unofficial results published by the Slovak Statistic Office.
According to the results, Freso obtained 66,163 votes, defeating the incumbent Bratislava region governor Vladimir Bajan with 43,187 votes.
"It's a certain breakthrough, a historic event, until now we didn't have a governor, now we have one," stated Dzurinda. According to him, the elections were a test between the centre-right formation and Smer-SD party, but the main political struggle will take place in the parliamentary elections next year.
Pavol Freso said the parties of the coalition that supported him were connected by mutual centre-right values and programme. He thinks it is going to be crucial to win the confidence of the public in Bratislava region on a daily basis.
"Permanent endeavour for confidence is the main goal of a politician," stated Freso, adding that the model of a rightist union will offer a chance for success in upcoming parliamentary elections, on which they will now focus.
