Most-Hid Ousts Angyal as Party Regional Chief

Bratislava, March 15 (TASR) - The Most-Hid party presidium on Monday decided to recall Bela Angyal from the post of regional head of the party structures in Nitra, TASR learnt on the same day.
Angyal, while with the SMK party, was nominated to head the Public Procurements Office (UVO), and recently saw his five-year term of office extended until his successor is chosen. The opposition parties are dissatisfied with his work at UVO, however, accusing him of turning a blind eye to non-transparent public tenders.
"We believe that he has to realise that some opposition parties will use him to do harm our party," said Most-Hid chairman Bela Bugar following a session of the party's top ranks.
Bugar stressed that Angyal hasn't been expelled from the party, as this is subject to a decision by the Most-Hid congress. "I don't think that an eight-month-old party should set about ousting its members," he added, noting that dismissal from the post of Most-Hid regional chief should serve as a kind of warning to Angyal.
Angyal's tenure in UVO, which was set to expire on March 10, was extended via legislation that was passed on March 2. The legislation in question, containing an amending proposal drawn up by MP Peter Pelegrini (Smer-SD), doesn't specify the exact date on which Angyal's chairmanship will terminate. "For the sake of preventing confusion and chaos, the proposal suggests having the incumbent chairman head up UVO even after his original term of office expires - until a new chairman is appointed," states Pelegrini's proposal.
According to SDKU-DS parliamentary caucus chairman Stanislav Janis, there are political reasons behind the extension of Angyal's tenure. "The Public Procurements Act has been changed on purpose, so that the UVO chairman can continue covering up the shady tenders of this Government," said Janis.
Prime Minister and leader of the main coalition Smer-SD party Robert Fico argued that the UVO chairman should always be nominated by the Opposition, so Angyal's replacement will only be chosen after the general election due in June.
Angyal told TASR last week that he would accept Most-Hid's decision on his post within the party structures.
