Hrusovsky: KDH Doesn't Want to Co-operate With Smer After Election

(STV, March 14, O pat minut dvanast)

Slovakia's general election on June 12 and the related candidate lists were the focal point of Slovak Television's (STV) politics programme 'O pat minut dvanast' (5 Minutes to Twelve) on Sunday, which pitted Culture Minister Marek Madaric (Smer-SD) against opposition Christian Democrat (KDH) parliamentary whip Pavol Hrusovsky.

Both claimed that their parties' candidate lists are made up of experienced people.

Madaric noted the fact that over its eight years in Parliament Smer has never seen any of its lawmakers desert, in contrast to other parties, which have lost many legislators.

The minister rejected opposition attacks against those he described as Smer's finest people, be they Interior Minister Robert Kalinak or Finance Minister Jan Pociatek, who rank 3rd and 7th on the Smer slate, respectively.

"This governing Coalition has been linked to scandals and lies ever since it came to power," said Hrusovsky, pointing to Pociatek's widely publicised sojourn on a yacht belonging to the J&T financial group in Monaco ahead of the revaluation of the Slovak koruna-to-euro central parity and the explosives that ended up in the luggage of a Slovak air traveller to Ireland after a botched police exercise among other scandals.

Madaric is confident that Smer will win the upcoming election and form the new government, which will be the task of the election winner.

According to Hrusovsky, KDH doesn't want a coalition with Smer, nor is it considering working with that party in any form. "After the parliamentary elections KDH will seek a change in political power and intends to create a centre-right coalition," he said.
