Gasparovic to Leave for Three-day Visit to Slovenia on Sunday

Bratislava, March 13 (TASR) - President Ivan Gasparovic accompanied with his wife Silvia is to leave for a three-day official visit to Slovenia on Sunday, the President's Office press department has told TASR.

The delegation will include Economy Minister Lubomir Jahnatek, Foreign Affairs Ministry State Secretary Olga Algayerova, and a large group of entrepreneurs that are to meet their Slovenian partners at an economic forum.

On Monday, Gasparovic is scheduled to meet his Slovenian counterpart Danilo Turk. Subsequently the two presidents should open the Slovenian-Slovak economic forum. Gasparovic will also talk with Slovenian Parliamentary Chairman Pavel Gantar, Premier Borut Pahor and Mayor of Ljubljana Zoran Jankovic.

The following day, Gasparovic is set to visit the coastal town of Portoroz, the only Slovenian port Luka Koper, the Loce cemetery and the Kobarid museum.

President Gasparovic will present Slovakia's interest in deepening all forms of co-operation with Slovenia, including continuing in the dialogue between the Visegrad Four group (Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland) and Slovenia. We consider Slovenia to be our natural partner, and at the time of tackling the effects of the global crisis, intensifying the mutual economic relations is a priority, said Gasparovic's press department.

Several Slovak companies are active in Slovenia, mainly in the spheres of energy and construction of the highway and railway infrastructure. Conversely, there is still a great scope for taking advantage of the tourist potential of the two countries, noted the press department.

The mutual trade turnover reached €406.5 million between January-November 2009, which represented a year-on-year drop of almost 30 percent.

Slovakia exports mainly cars, TV sets and various machines and metal devices to Slovenia. Meanwhile, pharmaceutical products, fridges and freezes are among the most significant commodities imported from Slovenia. In addition, Slovakia is the fourth most important partner of the cargo port Luka Koper.
