Bratislava, March 12 (TASR) - A new political party called Union - Party for Slovakia will be led into the parliamentary elections on June 12 by former SDKU-DS member and unsuccessful candidate for Bratislava governor Branislav Zahradnik, it was announced at a Union press conference on Friday.
The new party, which was created by merging three political parties - Free Forum, Liga and Civic Candidates – wants to propose an alternative to the current rightist policies when it comes to the people involved, the programme and the style of politics, according to party representatives.
Number 2 on the slate is Mayor of Presov Pavel Hagyari, who is followed by Free Forum chair Zuzana Martinakova, Union chairman Milan Cilek and entrepreneur Roman Jankovic. Sixth place is occupied by Liga vice-chair Martina Cierna, and next comes entrepreneur and favourite target of the Slovak tabloids Boris Kollar and Green Party of Slovakia chairman Martin Culen. Another SDKU-DS renegade Martin Kuruc holds 11th spot, above journalist Ludmila Farkasovska and Mayor of Kremnica (Banska Bystrica region) Zuzana Balazova.
"The social sphere is very fragile and extraordinarily unstable. Four years ago the public decided for a change also due to wrong social policies of (Mikulas) Dzurinda's second government," said Union expert for social policies Zuzana Martinakova.
