Slovaks Had to Pay More For Healthcare and Foodstuffs in February

Bratislava, March 11 (TASR) - In February 2010, it was the prices in healthcare and foodstuffs that have risen most sharply, reports the Slovak Statistics Office on Thursday.
According to the Stats Office, the prices for shelter, water, electricity and fuels stayed at January's levels.
The prices in healthcare increased in February month-on-month by 0.8 percent. Furthermore, foodstuff and alcohol prices went up in January m-o-m by 0.7 percent, while culture and recreation prices increased by 0.3 percent. The Stats Office says that healthcare prices rose in January mainly due to the increased prices of hospital products (by 2.1 percent) as well as pharmaceutical and healthcare products (by 0.1 percent). The rise in foodstuff prices is mainly due to an increase of vegetable prices (by 5.7 percent).
Lower (by 2.4 percent) operational costs in passenger transport had an impact on drop in transport prices in February. On the other hand, the prices of transport services went up by 0.3 percent.
Y-o-y, consumer prices dropped by 0.4 percent in February 2010, with the exception of alcohol, tobacco, healthcare and education prices that went up. It was mostly furniture, household equipment and foodstuff prices that decreased.
The consumer prices index for productive-age households didn't change y-o-y in February 2010, while prices went up for pensioners households by 0.1 percent.
