SMK: Angyal's Term of Office Was Extended As Government Uses Him

Bratislava, March 11 (TASR) - The ethnic-Hungarian SMK party claims that extending the term of office of chairman of the Office for Public Procurement Bela Angyal (SMK nominee, now member of Most-Hid) is a purpose-built political move made by the Government in order to use Angyal's services even longer, Eva Dunajska from SMK press department told TASR on Wednesday.

"SMK recalls that at the time when Bela Angyal was a member of SMK, its chairman Pal Csaky called on him publicly to resign either from his post as the UVO chairman or give up his SMK membership. SMK considers Angyal's ongoing stay as UVO chairman to be unconstitutional," she stressed.

"In this connection, let us point to the findings of the Constitutional Court, which in connection with the changes in the Constitution and extending the term of office of the chairman and vice-chairmen of the Supreme Audit Office (NKU) has already expressed its opinion ... that extending the term of office of a constitutional representative during his or her service is unique and unusual, because it only occurs in times of crises and it is problematic from the perspective of democratic legitimacy (to carry out the function)," she added.
