Fuhl: Jobbik Boasts Best Programme for Minorities in Hungary

Budapest, March 11 (TASR) - Extremist right-wing party Jobbik has the best programme for minorities in Hungary, according to a survey published on Thursday by Ludove Noviny (luno.hu), a web portal for Slovaks living in Hungary.

"If I had to cast my vote based on minorities programmes alone, I would have to vote for Jobbik," LuNo.hu reporter and member of Statewide Slovak Self-Government general assembly member Imrich Fuhl told TASR. He added, however, that he would never vote for the party, as Jobbik represents a shame for Hungarian politics as a whole with its radical and fascism-tinged views.

Jobbik's Department for National Policies Chairman Istvan Szavay says that the 'Radical Change' Jobbik programme also features national policies dealing with minorities living in Hungary, especially the Roma people.

Szavay claimed that Jobbik plans to end the anti-constitutional status in place since 1993, and secure the parliamentary representation for minorities in the bicameral – half of the MPs elected by proportional representation and the other half via first-across-the-post voting – Hungarian Parliament. Jobbik wants to improve the civic sphere and social lives of minority people, as well as support the education of minority community in its mother language, says Bravay.
