SDKU and KDH: We're Ready to Create Clear Alternative to Smer

Bratislava, March 10 (TASR) - Opposition parties SDKU-DS and the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) are ready to create a clear alternative to the current Smer-SD-led Government, SDKU-DS election leader Iveta Radicova said after meeting KDH chairman Jan Figel on Wednesday.

Creating an alternative to the current Government is a necessity for Slovakia. "There's a need to direct Slovakia in a way that will create conditions for quality of life, a decent life, transparency, openness and decency in politics," said Radicova.

"I can confirm a vast level of closeness in programmes and agreement in several spheres, such as a state based on the law, justice, transparency, consolidating public money, the sphere of social policies, healthcare, education and the overall perspective of Slovakia as a stable democratic country," said Figel.

Radicova announced that SDKU will present its election programme on March 27, while Figel said that the Christian Democrats will adopt their manifesto in early April.

Pointing to a recent MVK public opinion poll in which SDKU and KDH recorded almost the same result (12.8 percent and 12.7 percent, respectively), both Radicova and Figel said that they are pleased about the other's good score.

"There's a lot of work, the harvest is large," said Figel in response to a journalist's remark that there can be only one leader of the Right.
