Industrial Production in January Grew Most Y-o-Y Since November 2007

Bratislava, March 9 (TASR) - Industrial production in Slovakia in January rose by 19.3 percent year-on-year, the biggest y-o-y increase since November 2007, the Statistics Office announced on Tuesday.
Developments in January were influenced by an increase in industrial production - 23.7 percent y-o-y, in mining and quarrying - 7.1 percent, and in electricity and gas supplies - 3.2 percent. When seasonal influences are taken into account, industrial production in January rose by 4.4 percent month-on-month.
In individual spheres, the most significant growth was recorded in the production of metals and metallic constructions - 44.5 percent, in the manufacturing of machines and devices - 40.7 percent, in the manufacturing of transport vehicles - 40.6 percent, in the manufacturing of electrical devices - 37 percent, and in the production of computer, electronic and optical products - 11.4 percent.
The total volumes of industrial production were also influenced by a reduction in the production of coke and refined oil products - 8.9 percent, in wood and paper products and printing - 3.4 percent, and in the production of basic pharmaceutical products - 5.4 percent.
