Bratislava, November 27 (TASR) - Governing-coalition LS-HZDS party MPs Katarina Tothova and Ludmila Muskova aim to introduce a ban on advertisements that encourage people to drink alcoholic beverages with offers such as 'buy two, get one free', TASR learnt on Friday.
"This kind of advertisement is absolutely inappropriate and helps increase alcohol consumption among younger people," said former justice minister Tothova. The two MPs have already submitted a draft amendment to the Advertising Act to Parliament.
Tothova and Muskova also noted that "interesting offers" of the 'buy two, get one free' kind have recently been appearing more frequently across the whole of Slovakia.
Although current legislation already deals with advertisements for alcohol, this needs to be supplemented by a ban on offers "that promise another glass of alcohol if a consumer buys several glasses of alcohol," added Tothova.
