Bratislava, March 9 (TASR) - Interblue Group Europe - the alleged successor to the U.S.-based Interblue Group, which bought Slovakia's surplus CO2 emission quotas from the Environment Ministry in 2007, still considers the contract to be valid, said project manager of the company Frantisek Jakoubek at a press conference on Tuesday.
Jakoubek is convinced that further discussions between the company and the ministry will eliminate discrepancies, adding that the first meeting should take place on the same day. Neither documents proving the legal succession of the company nor time for questions were provided for the media.
"Interblue Group Europe, as the legal successor of the Interblue Group, views the contract concluded with the Slovak Environment Ministry as still valid. The company is fully aware of its commitments resulting from the agreement and it is ready to meet them," said Jakoubek.
Ministry spokesperson Jana Kaplanova confirmed for TASR that a first meeting with the company has been arranged, but the ministry refused to disclose further information concerning the matter. Environment Minister Jozef Medved will not take part in the session, delegating ministry representatives to act on his behalf instead.
The alleged new owner of the company Milan Ruzicka was also present at the press conference, declaring that Interblue Group Europe really is the legal successor. He claimed to have bought 100 percent of the shares from the previous owner as his own private investment and described the whole transaction as a standard one. The changes are now undergoing registration in Switzerland, but Ruzicka didn't back up his claims with any documents.
The ministry announced last week that the Interblue Group went out of business in December 2009 and that it considers the emissions quota contract terminated as the ministry still hasn't received any documents proving that a legal successor exists.
Prime Minister Robert Fico has declared that Slovakia won't sell any more emission quotas to Interblue.
