Kotleba Running in General Election, Believes in Success of LSNS Party

Banska Bystrica, March 9 (TASR) - Former leader of far-right organisation Slovenska Pospolitost (Slovak Togetherness) Marian Kotleba on Tuesday confirmed that he will take part in the general election scheduled for June 12, running as a candidate of the People's Party Our Slovakia (LSNS).

"We haven't submitted out slate yet, but we're intending to do so by the end of the week. I hope that nothing unexpected will happen and nobody will trample on the principles of a law-based state," Kotleba told TASR.

Kotleba and his supporters became members of the People's Party for Social Solidarity, which was later renamed LSNS and changed its statutes. The Interior Ministry registered the changes last week. "We decided on this move after discussions with various lawyers," said Kotleba, who refused to say whether he will be LSNS's election leader.

Kotleba claimed that people want the party to take part in the general election and said that he hopes to bring about change in Slovakia. "We believe that we'll gain 5.1 percent of the votes at least. If we had thought that we would lose this fight, we wouldn't have gone into it," he said, stressing that LSNS doesn't have any contacts with Hungarian far-right party Jobbik.
