Sefcovic to Be European Commissioner for Inter-institutional Relations

Brussels, November 27 (TASR) - Slovak EU Commissioner Maros Sefcovic will be in charge of inter-institutional relations and administration and will also be a vice-president of the European Commission when the new Commission is set up, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso announced in Brussels on Friday.

The new Commission with a five-year mandate has to be approved by the European Parliament after so-called hearings of EC members - planned for January 11-19, 2010 take place. The EP will not vote on each Commissioner individually but the new EC as a whole on January 26.

The EC will have seven vice-presidents, with the first among them being Baroness Catherine Ashton, who was also appointed High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy last week.
