Lajcak: Slovakia to Continue Helping Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bratislava, November 27 (TASR) - Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak has said that Slovakia fully supports the efforts of Bosnia and Herzegovina to begin the NATO Membership Action Plan, Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Peter Stano told TASR on Friday.

During his talks with outgoing Bosnia and Herzegovina ambassador Ivan Orlic in Bratislava on the same day, Lajcak spoke in favour of maintaining the mandate of the EUFOR/ALTHEA military mission in the country and stressed that Bosnia and Herzegovina needs to continue its domestic reforms. "The EU and the U.S.A. are assisting this in terms of the Butmir process, which has no alternative," said Lajcak. Orlic praised the contribution of the Slovak minister in understanding the situation in the Balkans and the complicated conditions that prevail in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Until this year, Lajcak served as High Representative and Special EU Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina for two years. According to Stano, he has continued to take special interest in the Balkan country. "In October, he was part of the EU presiding country Sweden's delegation vis-a-vis a joint European-American mission in Sarajevo, with the aim of finding a solution to the difficult political situation in the country," said Stano.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is also among the priorities of Slovakia's foreign affairs policies and development aid efforts.
