First Lot of A(H1N1) Vaccines to Arrive in Slovakia by End of Year

Bratislava, November 27 (TASR) - The first consignment of vaccines against the new A(H1N1) flu virus is expected to arrive in Slovakia by the end of this year, with their transport due to be completed by early February 2010, head of the Office of the State Material Reserves Administration (SSHR) Lubomir Urban told TASR on Friday.

He added that the contract for the purchase is currently awaiting the signature of the company that will provide the vaccines.

Health Minister Richard Rasi said earlier in November that more than one million vaccines should be purchased. He also gave assurances that Slovakia has enough protective face masks, with SSHR holding more than 26 million of these, and stated that there are 600,000 anti-viral medicines in stock.

A total of 466 Slovaks have been confirmed as contracting the novel flu virus to date.
