Bratislava, March 8 (TASR) - Opposition SDKU-DS MP and Bratislava governor Pavol Freso on Monday resigned from the party's slate for the parliamentary elections (on June 12) over a voting fraud in Bratislava.
Freso, who featured as No. 7 on the list, draw political responsibility for the manipulation with votes in the recent party's primaries in Bratislava's borough of Stare Mesto (Old Town), where he is the chairman of the local party association.
SDKU-DS chair Mikulas Dzurinda reported that two signatures in Stare Mesto were forged in the primary elections on February 27, therefore the voting in this borough was annulled, which resulted to minor corrections in the final SDKU-DS slate.
SDKU vice-chair Lucia Zitnanska praised Freso for the gesture, adding that Freso certainly wasn't involved in the fraud, but drew political responsibility for it. The move will allow him to focus more on his duties as Bratislava region governor, however, she added.
The SDKU slate is being led by party vice-chair Iveta Radicova, who is followed by other two vice-chairs Ivan Miklos and Lucia Zitnanska, Parliamentary vice-chairman Milan Hort, economist Eugen Jurzyca, MP Viliam Novotny, former defence minister Martin Fedor, SDKU caucus leader Stanislav Janis, SDKU regional head in Zilina Ivan Chaban and SDKU Central Committee chairman Jozef Mikus.
