Fedor: Defence Ministry Misusing Bad Law to Sell State Property Cheap

Bratislava, March 5 (TASR) - The Defence Ministry is taking advantage of an amendment to the act on the transfer of state-owned immovable assets to local councils or Higher Territorial Units (VUCs) adopted in 2008 to sell state properties to private companies at cheap prices, former defence minister Martin Fedor (SDKU-DS) told TASR on Friday.
The opposition MP noted that he pointed out that the act would enable non-transparent sales when the act was adopted.
"A recent example of the sale of property under the administration of the Defence Ministry has confirmed that (Robert) Fico's Government is privatising," said Fedor, commenting on a report by Plus Jeden Den daily in which it was stated that the ministry is to sell a former army barracks at one-third of its real price to a company that was set up as recently as in January. The firm in question is based in a new building in the Bratislava borough of Petrzalka without any sign on display or bell to ring.
The act allows the price of immovable assets to be reduced by as much as 70 percent and property to be sold to a private applicant even if a local council is interested in it, stressed Fedor.
