Fico: Insulation Programme Successful, We'll Look for More Resources

Bratislava, March 4 (TASR) - The Government's funding involving the insulation of houses and flats, the state's investments into which climbed up to €71 million, was successful, but resources allocated to it have already been spent, Prime Minister Robert Fico said during his inspection at the Construction and Regional Development Ministry on Thursday.

The programme itself was launched in July 2009 and run by the State Fund for Housing Development (SFBR), which is under the remit of the Construction and Regional Development Ministry. "In 2010, we'll consider possibilities for replenishing this funding," said Fico.

"Construction Minister Igor Stefanov informed me that even five times higher funding would now have run out. SFRB received 392 requests for interest-free resources within the programme. It's a successful programme," concluded the premier.

What's important, according to Fico, is that as much as €65 million of the sum is going to be used on insulation projects in the first half of this year, when the global economic crisis still continues and government spending provides a stopgap.

Fico added that the positive effects of the programme lie in sustainability and job creation, along with saving energy. Households involving more than 18,000 people are involved in the insulation programme, the premier pointed out.
